2017 Specialized Sequoia

A 100 years ago, there were no road bikes and touring bikes—there were just bikes, and that didn't stop anyone from heading out into the wilderness. With this spirit, Specialized built their groundbreaking Sequoia. The Sequoia's path to adventure starts at the frame, which Specialized constructed from Premium Cr-Mo and stainless steel tubing. These materials are coveted for their strength, respectable weight, and tuned ride quality. Of course, this is only a piece of the equation, with the next being its dedicated Adventure Geometry that provides ample confidence over rough and smooth terrain. This geometry is unique in that it skews the line between a traditional road bike and a dedicated touring rig. You'll find an ample wheelbase and low bottom bracket for control, but the chainstays and tube angles ensure that you'll be able to travel efficiently and quickly, regardless of whether or not your rig is loaded. Digging into the details, the frame is outfitted with an ample number of mounts for bottles, racks, and fenders. And for the build, Specialized included reliable parts, like a mix of sturdy Shimano components, fuss-free mechanical disc brakes, and hand-built Hayfield wheels that are cased in wide, 2Bliss Ready tires.

what a great bike this is. Comfortable, smooth, and fast as hell. The upright geometry makes the bike really comfortable and versitile. Enjoy--I've got 1000 miles on mine.

    Comments:

I purchased a 2007 Sequoia late in August 2008. I changed the pedals to shimano ultegra and the saddle to what is now standard included saddle the "Sonoma". As a male whom was turning 50 when I purchased it I was trying to get back in shape. It has comfortable geometry and a set of brake levels in the middle of the handlebars included. I went from riding 6 miles per day to 70 miles per week. A excellent value for the money. More than what I expected.

    Comments:

I bought this bike at the end of last season as my first road bike (coming from a mountain bike I was using for commutes). The regular Sequoia has been a perfect first road bike for me, I've really enjoyed it for commuting and exercise for the last 900mi, it's been a comfortable stable bike that I am happy with. The main things I would complain about are probably more a result of getting the standard spec Sequoia instead of the higher spec Elite, the low spec wheels (expected at this price point) have needed a lot of truing for a heavy rider like me commuting on potholes and stuff, and the Sora triple front derailleur has also needed a good bit of adjustment and even when adjusted isn't very smooth, I will likely replace the wheels with Velocity DeepV set and the derailleur with a Tiagra or 105 soon. Pros: comfortable stable decently light mount points for rack Cons: Low spec wheels and Front Derailleur No room for fenders (had to custom mount cut fenders) Limited tire room (I don't think 28mm tire fits)

    Comments:

I bought this bike as a year-end close out in Spring '09. I wasn't seriously looking to buy at the time, but I couldn't pass this bike up for the price. Because of the bike's geometry, the riding position is a bit more upright than usual. This creates a little more drag, but it also lends to a more comfortable ride. I've only had this bike for a couple of months, and so far it's been great. I highly recommend it, particularly to beginner level cyclists.

    Comments:

I have started to ride to work. It is about 16 miles one way and in the Hill Country of Texas. This bike is great. I have about 1000 miles on the bike and no mechanical problems. Some roads are not well maintained, but the forks work great. Only real problem is keeping the tires up. One draw back in the rear dose transmit a little on the rough road to your seat. Change out the seat and you are golden.

I ride my bike about 40-50 miles per week, mostly around town.Everything is stock except the seat, and I traded up to armadillo tires. Since i bought the seat, this bike is very comfortable,I'm 53 years old 176lbs and in good shape. especially on flat terrain. All of my friends comment on how sharp the colors are. This is a beautiful road bike. I look forward to many, many, happy miles while staying in shape.
