Great Bike

By Big Gene

from Corona Ca

About Me

Pros

  • Balanced
  • Comfortable
  • Fast

Cons

  • Tires

Best Uses

Comments:

This bike is balanced comfortable and quick. The only caveat is the tires. I was averaging a flat a week until I switched them out for a set of Maxxis Refuse's. I tested every bike in the $1000 range and this one took the cake. No regrets whatsoever.

    Comments:

I am a long time MTB Rider switching to Road Racing. This is a great entry to mid level priced bike. The bike is comfortable and very fast. After four flats in one month I had to upgrade the tires to a more durable pair. Other than the tires, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

      Comments:

The Giant Defy 3 rides like a dream. It seems to go on forever. I was looking for a reasonable road bike that wouldn't empty out the wallet. This is it. The construction is top-notch, typical excellent Giant-quality, good components, and a solid overall bicycle that weighs next to nothing. If you're getting into road-biking, this is THE bike to start with.

      Comments:

I ride an '09 Defy 3, but it is essentially the same as the '11. It is a remarkable bike. I did, however, upgrade the components to SRAM Force and now it is a formidable beast of a bike. For a minimal investment, I can easily keep up with the big boys on their high dollar toys.

      Comments:

Weekly riding. Average 25 miles a ride several times a week. It is a well rounded bike with composite forks which is a benefit over the TREK equivalent. The seat is not very comfortable and the gear levers are lower end shifters.

      Fantastic Bike

      Best Uses

      • Road cycling

      Comments:

I bought two bikes, the higher end Defy 0 and this bike at the same time. (This review is based on 2011 Defy 3). For half the price this bike is negligable vs the Defy 0. The speed and performance is comparable to the more expensive bike, except for brakes noticably lower quality and shifters somewhat less. This bike seats you more casually and is super comfortable for all around usage. I intend to actually commute with mine as the 2011 model has a triple front sprocket enabling me to do river valley hills better. For an entry level bike I feel this 2012 model should have retained the triple sprocket as the triple sprocket is really designed for individuals without bulked up racing leg strength as most beginners or entry level cyclists usually are. Overall though for the money this is a steal.

After looking at all brands that have offerings in this price bracket I went with the Defy 3 and I am very pleased. Having been on a quality Mountain bike for years I was looking to get back to the road. Rode this bike all weekend and have found it to be light, fast and nimble. Seat is fine I could ride this thing all day.
